Looking down on the spinning, swirling web, he knew this was a last time event. Never is a long time and never it would be.
This place, this home was gone now, never to be seen again. Damage done. Flames still rose, lighting the dance of the billowing towers of smoke like gaping monsters biting, spitting, howling up at the night above.
This home base for the greater part of a tumultuous decade, was left in ruins.  Not all of it, just the important places that mattered. Years went into the making and planning and execution of this night’s destruction. The charges placed in hidden subterranean locales certain to bring the greatest measure of retribution.
The toll, when finally counted months from this night, would be great, horrible, unimaginable. Among those counted would be the few that mattered. The targets of this decade of laser-focused penetration and preparation.
Under collapsed and crushed mountains of dust, twisted metal and rubble were those ultimately responsible for this mayhem. Their generations of corruption and cruelty buried with them, like the plunder of Vikings, the wealth of pharaohs. Their world required annihilation, permanent removal from sight and memory.
Now, mere minutes later, the web of light and fire and smoldering chaos below was left behind. Hundreds of miles an hour into the black skyless night unveiled other tangled webs of light and teeming life below.
