The British Are Coming (Back)

The long and storied history of controversial British involvement in Iran is turning over a new leaf with the news that Britain is on the verge of re-opening their embassy in Tehran after the election of a moderate Iranian president.

Britain has played power games in Iran since the early 20th century and ask any Iranian what they think about England and oil is mentioned — BP is the evolution of the original Anglo Persian Oil Company.

While Britain had no official presence in Iran since closing their embassy in 2011 after riots, the British MI6 spy agency has undoubtedly kept a presence. Iran even claimed to have captured an MI6 spy last year.

With things falling apart in Syria and now getting even worse in Iraq, Iran will definitely play a larger role in any regional stability. Britain is counting on that.
