Welcome to Harvey Point — Training Ground for My Fictional Spy and Real Special Ops (who killed bin Laden)

I first learned about the Harvey Point CIA facility in North Carolina three years ago while writing my first novel — The Perfect Candidate. I did quite a bit of research on CIA training and came across the secret facility several times.

I had my character — Lance Priest — train there along with espionage operatives from around the world, including US special forces. He learned the basics of killing, small arms, explosives and more killing.

Well what do you know, according to NBC News, the members of the Navy’s elite SEAL Team 6 trained at Harvey Point in advance of the operation that killed Osama bin Laden. A mockup of the bin Laden compound in Pakistan was supposedly constructed on the site. I figured as much when a friend who read the recently published book No Easy Day written by a member of the SEAL team mentioned the team had trained in North Carolina.

I know the CIA is not thrilled about the book by the SEAL veteran. They are also not thrilled that the Harvey Point location has been featured by international news media. But the facility has always been something of an open secret.
