Anosognosia: Fun new word for lying to yourself

This is an interesting series of essays by Errol Morris. Hadn’t heard of the word prior to reading these. Found the President Woodrow Wilson information fascinating. The president has a stroke, but will not admit to his incapacity or is he completely oblivious to his inability to recognize his incapacity?

I understand the premise for the idea that stupid people are incompetent and therefore cannot know they are stupid or incompetent. We see it around us every day. People live their lives figuratively with blinders on. Blinders blocking their view inward and out. They live an unlived life because they are stuck in their little world where they are unaware that they do not know many, many things.

It is all really just lying to yourself. Telling yourself that your world view is complete because it is your world view and therefore is complete. You’ll note I have completely left out any mention of politics here…
