So, Who Kept this Secret? — Afghanistan Mineral Wealth

According the the New York Times, the US military has discovered, or at least confirmed, the existence of huge mineral deposits in Afghanistan. The deposits were supposedly discovered after the Soviet invasion in the 1980s and kept secret until after the US military arrived in 2001.

Funny. An open secret, known by many yet kept from the rest of us. So, who kept the secret? Looks like US military, CIA, US Geological Survey and others. Who was it kept secret from” The Afghanistan government, the Taliban and maybe most of all, China. It seems China is currently mining a huge copper deposit and is starving for more raw materials to feed their monster economy. Interesting one here.

The most obvious question is how does this change the history of the decision to invade Afghanistan after 9/11? Does the entire equation change when “$1 trillion in minerals” are considered. Just like oil profits were supposed to pay for the Iraq War.
